What is 'Esoteric Christianity'?

Esoteric Christianity is a branch of Christianity that often emphasizes "hidden readings", or "hidden traditions" that need to be learned or understood through an initiation or teacher.

The canonical gospels, various apocalyptic works, some New Testament Apocrypha, and a purported oral tradition from the Twelve Apostles containing esoteric teachings of Jesus Christ, are shared characteristics of these spiritual currents. Other features include heterodox or heretical Christian theology, the canonical gospels, various apocalyptic literature, and commentaries from various mystical figures.

In this course, we seek to define Esoteric Christianity by way of commentary and analysis of mystics, esotericists, and philosophers who have a hidden and/or deeper understanding of Christian teachings. Inclusive of Rudolf Steiner, George Gurdjieff, Meister Eckhart, Jacob Bohme, Swedenborg, Eliphas Levi, Anna Kingsford, Dion Fortune, and more. Alongside a thorough introduction to the basics of both Christian theology and the very idea of esotericism, as a means to pave the way forward into understanding this rich history.
